lesson #7: keep looking for new solutions

Like it or not, makeup has been a pretty consistent part of my life for years, as with many women.  Begging my parents permission in the 6th grade to wear just the lightest eye shadow.  Struggling to manipulate age lines and shading through years of theater costumes.  Finally learning how to actually apply make up in college from girls who were practically progessionals. Even now, applying and maintaining make up is a factor in my job (gotta keep the boss happy!)  So I understand the heart-stopping, stomach-lurching moment when that brand new eye shadow or outrageously expensive powder jumps from the makeup bag and plunges to the floor.
Literally, a shattering moment.  Ruined.  A waste of money.  Until now.
I just learned a way to salvage that powder based makeup, and in only four easy steps!
You'll need:
-Broken compact/eye shadow/powder
-Rubbing alcohol (the higher percentage alcohol the better)
-Spoon or Make-up sponge

Step 1:
Arrange the broken powder as closely to the fit of the compact as possible.
Step 2:
Add a few drops of alcohol to the pieces of powder.
Step 3:
Using the back of the spoon or the make up sponge (I found the sponge easiest to use),  smoosh* the wet powder into the form of the compact.
The idea here is that alcohol as a liquid will allow the powder to be reshaped.  However, alcohol evaporates quickly, thus leaving the powder in the form it now holds.
Step 4:
Allow plenty of time to dry.

Author’s Note: To be honest, the compact doesn’t totally return to its a original state.  It definitely still works, but there may be lumps in final-product.  Or maybe, I am not as neat as I should have been.  The final ascetic was my only issue.  And, yes*, smooosh is now a new real word.
